Satin until Proven Matte: The Body Shop Matt Lip Liquid vs Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipgloss Compared

My Essence vs Maybelline Mascaras post was not exactly popular. But I enjoy seeing posts and vlogs wherein people compare two brands side by side so this is why, in the words of DJ Khaled, “ANOTHER ONE!”

These two lip products are both marketed as “velvety matte” products are belong to the same colour family: pink nudes. Both retail for under a R100 so I thought all these similarities warranted a comparison checking to see if their formula and performance was the same…

I do not have a large range of The Body Shop make-up products in my collection purely because I consider them to be too expensive. Surprisingly their matte lip liquids are inexpensive compared to how much other brands are charging for liquid lipsticks. Flormar *cough cough* I’m looking at you with your hefty R169 price tag.

The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid is a pretty cool-toned pink that is versatile enough to be paired with different eye looks. Initially it looks great and gives the my-lips-but-better effect. Later on, however, it starts to flake at the inside of your lips. It legit looks like your lips are deflating. While the colour is visible even through meals, your lips feel bare and dry after a while.

Essence Matt Matt Matt Longlasting Lipgloss in Beauty Approved

Claims according to the Essence Website:

meet matt. the creamy mousse texture of the new lipgloss range provides long-lasting colour with a high coverage and a velvety-matt finish.

The Essence Matt Matt Lipgloss has a really big applicator compared to most. The texture is moussey and creamy as the claims say.

The is satin finish is unexpected for the Essence Matt Matt Lipgloss, especially considering that the word ‘matt’ is repeated thrice in its name.

I was pleasantly surprised by how opaque the Essence lipgloss is in terms of pigmentation. Part of me still expects lipglosses to be transparent. Well, this one is not.

The satin nature of this lipgloss means that it transfers quite easily and not aa longlasting as it claims.

In conclusion

I like the Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipgloss in ‘Beauty Approved’ but the colour kinda washes me out. Whereas The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid in ‘Windsor Rose’ has a more uncomfortable wear but is wearable because of the shade.

  1. I have one Essence matt matt matt lip gloss but in dark berry shade, I love how it looks on lips, it’s so creamy and comfortable. On photos it is absolutely stunning, but it can be a bit messy, because of transfer as I have really dark color. I love the color of The Body shop one, it’s super pretty. xx

It is definitely a comfortable albeit messy wear. I’ve recently got their Shine On lipstick which is also really comfortable on the lips but less pigmented than the Matt Matt Lipgloss
