Makeup Revolution Retro Luxe Matte Lipkit in ‘Noble’ Review

As of September 2018, Makeup Revolution – the iconic British brand – has officially launched in South Africa at Clicks stores.

Makeup Revolution is likely to start a revolution in South Africa. Their prices are really affordable and may knock other drugstore brands out of the park.

The Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit is one such affordable product at R124.95. It comes in a box that has a cardboard divider separating the liquid lipstick and pencil.

Check the silver metal rod that they use to curb theft.

The shade ‘Noble‘ is peachy brown. A bit too pale for my liking. But a good nude for fair to medium brown skin tones. It may look stark on someone with a deeper skin tone.

Some of the reviews that I’ve read complain about how mismatched the lipliners in these kits are to the liquid lipstick.

In my opinion, it doesn’t make sense to duplicate the same shade but in a different product. The lipliner swatches like a orangier (is that a word?) version of the liquid lipstick.

The pencil is not the retractable kind unfortunately so you are likely to lose product due to frequent sharpening but it’s still worth the buy.

I’d most likely combine the Makeup Revolution Lip Pencil with a one of the nudes from my Catrice Ultimatte Lip Palette to bolster its longevity or modify the colour.

This liquid lipstick has a thin formula, similar to the Dare Lipgloss (which I reviewed here last year). The narrow doe foot applicator doesn’t apply a lot of product.

This is a plus because it allows you more control when application and lowers your chances of colouring outside of the lines (unless you’re into that sort of thing).

If I wear this in the future, I’m more likely to pair the liquid lipstick with a brick brown lipliner.

Onto longevity and feel… The Retro Luxe Matte Lipkit in ‘Noble’ is sticky intially. This stickiness develops into dryness which in turn emphasises lines on your lips. So it’s not the most comfortable liquid lipstick formula like the one from Nyx or Flormar.

The plus points for the Retro Luxe Lipkit from Makeup Revolution are: 1)value for money. For the price of one product, you are getting two.

2) Pigmentation. The lipliner and liquid lipstick are opaque and do not require multiple applications to get the colour to show up.

3) Packaging. Unlike other drugstore products, the Lipkit comes in a box and both lip products are sealed with plastic. This provides reassurance that no one has placed the product in the vicinity of their lips before you used it.
